Trading In Your Old Trailer and Buy Backs
Lettering, custom graphics, and unusual color paint will severely depreciate the value of your used trailer. Other people are not enthusiastic about owning a trailer with your name or personal taste in paint color or graphics, unless it is an incredible bargain. Please remove all lettering before bringing your trailer to us for a trade-in, or expect to get much lower trade-in value.
There is no “Industry Used Trailer Price Book,” although estimating the value of your used trailer is much like the value of a used car. The day you drive it off the lot it is worth 15 to 20 percent less than a new one. After that a trailer usually depreciates by about 10% per year, minus any mechanical or damage repair required.
You MUST have proof of ownership to trade in your trailers. In New Jersey , trailers that weigh less than 2500 lbs. empty are not issued a title, instead the trailer's registration card will have the letters NTTRL displayed on it. This stands for “Non-Titled Trailer.” Ownership is conveyed with the registration card and a declaration of sale document. Trailers that weigh over 2500 lbs. Should have been issued a Certificate of Title by the NJMVC. You will need the correct document when you trade in your trailer. Please have it with you, no transfer of ownership can take place without these documents.
